Snowboarding quickly became my favorite past time, and I’ve been riding now for over thirty years. To me, snowboarding is about more than just BoarderCross racing… it is my passion and way of life. From the day I got my first snowboard in 1984, if there was snow in the mountains, I was out riding, building jumps, making half pipes, and racing. Burton, Fishpaw, and Lib Tech took notice my senior year of high school, offering me sponsorships. I raced professionally for 11 years, from 1992 to 2004 with sponsorships from Burton, Fishpaw, Fuel Clothing, Lib Tech, Oakley, One Ball Jay, Palmer, Salomon, Scott, Sun Valley Ski Tools, Swatch, and my family. In 1998, I became the first US BoarderCross Champion. That took my snowboarding career to the next level, and in 2000, I became Team Captain for Palmer USA.
My BoarderCross racing inspired me to launch Neptune Industries. It began with the BXT Racing Gate – a gate that changed BoarderCross racing by making the race starts more fair and safe. That was followed by my custom snow tools that allowed for smoother transitions on jumps and half pipes. Initially these tools were made for my own use, but resorts began asking if they could purchase my snow rakes and shovels. Planet Snowtools (now known as PLANET) was formed to sell my specialty snow tools. PLANET today is best known for the custom terrain park features, such as the rail slides and boxes enjoyed at almost every ski resort around the world. In addition to designing and manufacturing terrain park features, PLANET also began designing, building, and managing terrain parks for ski resorts and events around the world (like the Olympics, USSA GrandPrix, Japan Open, and X-Games).
I launched Gateway Parks in 2011 to bring the terrain park experience to local communities so that kids of all ages and families could afford to get out to try and enjoy snow sports right in their local hometown. Working with local park and recreational offices, Gateway Parks creates an affordable opportunity for kids to enjoy terrain park fun and tubing every day, not just on weekends or holidays. Our company tagline says it all — Ride Where You Reside. This year Gateway Parks partnered with Team Service, Sun Valley Ski Tools, Race Werks, GNU, Lib-tech, Federation for International Skiing (FIS), and Hoods to Woods. These industry partners allow Gateway Parks take this concept to a whole new level. This year we have three park locations — Eagle Island (Idaho), Eagle Sports Complex (Idaho), and Rockford (Illinois) — with several more parks underway.
